Healthy Breakfast Smoothies

In my opinion smoothie is one of the best breakfasts one can make. It is easy, simple, quick, fulfilling and awesomely healthy. For me, smoothie is just wonderful and energizing way to start a fantastic day. P. S. Every day is a fantastic day! πŸ˜€

The smoothie recipes are a great way to get inspiration. However, I usually make a smoothie from what I have in home and what I feel appetite for. Another thing that I do is, change the amounts of ingredients in smoothie. That way every smoothie tastes a bit differently. For example, this morning I added more blueberries than I usually do and my whole smoothie tasted like blueberry- banana smoothie πŸ˜€

A way to make a smoothie Healthy…

The most important ingredients are greens. You won’t taste any of them in smoothie but they make a huge difference in the healthiness of the smoothie. The Best ratio in my opinion is when half of your smoothie are greens and half the smoothie are fruits and/ or berries.

Best greens you can use are

Celery – amazing source of protein, fiber, vitamins A, B-6, C, K and Minerals Calcium, Iron and Magnesium. This is my special way to power up my smoothies. Celery has anti-inflammatory health benefits and it contains lots of antioxidants. However, use it in small amounts because of the strong taste.

Spinach – you can but lots of spinach leaves in a smoothie and still not taste a thing. Spinach is high in vitamin K, vitamin A, manganese, magnesium, iron, copper, vitamin B2, zinc, protein, vitamin E, and vitamins B6 and B1. This super food really is a great ingredient for a healthy smoothie.

Avocado – this is essential for every healthy smoothie! Avocado is great source of healthy fat, which is essential for making smoothie fulfilling and also essential for absorbing all the vitamins and minerals. Avocados are very nutrient dense food – they contain extreme amounts of nutrients even in small amounts. Avocados also give a smoothie nice smooth taste and texture (therefore, avocado can replace a banana in smoothie).

Carrots – again you won’t feel a taste of it, but adding a carrot will hide lots of vitamin A and many more nutrients to your smoothie.

A way to make Your smoothies taste Amazing…

Fruits and berries are an important component of every smoothie. All other ingredients are to make it a healthy as possible, but fruits and berries are here to make it taste as good as possible.

Now, of course fruits and berries are very nutritious and a great healthy ingredient. However, their focus in your smoothie is to make it taste good.

I use mostly same ingredients in different amounts. I always use some berries, because they taste great and are very high in fiber and vitamins. I use my berries frozen – that way I know I always have some and my smoothies turn out nice and chill without adding ice πŸ™‚ My favorite berries are:

Blueberries – one of the most nutritious berries in the world, they are also called as super food. They are one of worlds most nutrient-dense foods that contain large levels and a broad range of antioxidants.

Raspberries – they give your smoothie a great color and additionally they are excellent source of vitamin C, dietary fiber, vitamins K and E.

Strawberries – These are extremely high in vitamin C and contain lots of Iron. Additionally, they are good source of fiber, copper, magnesium, and omega-3 fats.

Actually any eatable berries you can get your hands on are very nutritious and give awesome taste to your smoothie. These are just my favorites πŸ™‚

And then I add some fruit, because I am a huge sweet tooth and I like my smoothies nice and sweet. Mostly I use:

Usually I add one banana – because they are very sweet and very nutritious. But if you want you can add any fruit. Here are some I have used: Pineapple, Apple, Watermelon, Kiwi, and Mango.

Protein / Meal replacement shake powder

From time to time I have used different shakes to add to my smoothies. I have my favorites, that I will share with you in coming articles.

I like adding some shake to my smoothie, especially when I know I won’t be able to eat for a long time. They make smoothies more fulfilling. Also, a great benefit of adding a shake/ protein powder to a smoothie is that you will get more nutritious smoothie – more vitamins and minerals than a regular smoothie can consist.

One important factor you have to consider when making a smoothie with shake or protein mix is that it will have taste of its own. Now, imagine if the fruits taste will conflict with the powders taste. If yes, then I would use that fruit some other time, in some other smoothie πŸ™‚

A nice kick to your smoothie

I always add some super food powder, some seeds or nuts and some peanut butter to my smoothie.

Here are my list of addition ingredients to make my smoothie healthier:

Oats – after all, this is a breakfast smoothie we are talking about πŸ™‚ But really, oats are amazingly nutritious source of protein and fiber. They are also cheap and easy to add your smoothie.

Spirulina – for some period I was obsessed with spirulina and green smoothies. Spiraling contains lots of B vitamins and Iron and lots of more amazing benefits like essential amino acids and protein and dietary fiber.

Peanut butter – I really add it to every smoothie. It is very high in protein and is a great source of healthy fats. Plus I love the taste of it – sooo yummy

Blueberry powder – Has all the amazing benefits that blueberry has but in higher amounts, because it is a concentrate of blueberries πŸ™‚

Cacao – the only reason some say chocolate is good for you is cacao, well, you can make your smoothie taste like chocolate while being 100 times healthier than chocolate πŸ™‚

Sometimes I add some spices like cinnamon, tumeric or cardamom to my smoothie to make it taste more interesting πŸ™‚

The base

You can use whatever liquid you like. Most of the time I use water πŸ™‚ It is cheap, and since, I don’t need any additional taste – all the fruits already flavor it so well – it is an amazing fit for most of the time.

However, if you want to add some taste or thicker texture you can use: Greek yogurt (unsweetened version) or any plain yogurt, almond milk or any other milk substance (in my opinion oat milk tastes amazing), soy milk or if you really want you can make your smoothie with fresh juice. However, be warned that fresh juices is high in sugars and calories so healthier choice would be some milk substance or just water.

Conclusion

Healthy Breakfast Smoothie is easy to make, easy to prepare and easy to clean. Plus it is a great way to pack yourself with various vitamins minerals and antioxidants. Basically just an amazingly healthy way to start your day.
